When a deliverer becomes possessed
A deliverance minister in one of the high profile Pentecostal churches in Jos, capital of Plateau State, recently got his fingers burnt during a demon casting session. On the fateful day, a very attractive female member of his church paid him a visit at his residence with a mission to have herself delivered of the spirit of fornication that had held her captive “against her wish.” The process of deliverance soon began with the reading of some relevant passages in the Bible. Then, a short session of worship songs followed. Next, the minister held the fornicator’s hands for the commencement of the casting out of the spirit. The lady responded by squeezing his hands seductively. The minister did not smell a rat.
A few minutes into the battle against the demon of fornication, the woman sank to her knees. It is a common feature in Pentecostal churches to see carriers of evil spirits being hurled all over the auditorium as the demon attempt to resist eviction. The minister held tight to the woman’s hands as she attempted to pull him down. Then the unexpected began to manifest. She nestled her head on the minister’s “front”. At first, he jerked back but she pressed further. Gradually, she freed her hands from his grip and threw them around his waist. There was an unusual response from the man’s libidinous region. But rather than shaking her off, he clasped his hands around her head and raised the tempo of the prayer. Then more strange things followed. The minister also went on his knees. While on their knees, their lips collided and the tongues were eventually locked together. The duo then began to vibrate as if they were monkeying with livewire. Overwhelmed by the demon of fornication, both of them crashed to the ground in the manner that cows are felled at a slaughter slab. And it was all over in less than a quarter of an hour.
Mission accomplished, the fornicating woman hurriedly left the minister’s house, pretending to be angry and disappointed. But her real mission was to cause the downfall of the holy man. Three days later, the rumour mill became alive. Meanwhile, a wedding date had been fixed for the minister and his fiancée. When the fiancée got wind of the sex scandal, she confronted her fiancé, who could not deny the accusation. He begged for forgiveness and claimed that the demon overpowered him and he fell for the temptation. But the fiancée was too disgusted by his hypocrisy and poor spiritual standing and insisted on tabling the matter before the senior pastor. The pastor, though stunned by the minister’s fall, pleaded with the fiancée to let sleeping dogs lie in the interest of the church. He promised that a serious deliverance session would be conducted to free the minister of the spirit of fornication. In tears, she gave the pastor her word but decided to call off the wedding. It was when tongues began to wag over the botched wedding that I was privileged to know about the scandal.
The fallen minister is currently on suspension and the senior pastor has decreed that deliverance activities should be conducted only inside the church auditorium and in the full glare of everybody and not on a one-on-one basis. He also banned holding of hands or any manner of body contacts between the deliverer and possessed, insisting that casting out of demons was a spiritual exercise.
