Church Mama falls off Facebook
“Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from all evil” is a familiar line in the Lord’s Prayer, which an average practicing Christian is very familiar with. The Holy Writ also goes a step further in enjoining the Christians to flee from all appearances of evil. The Facebook is an invention that not only comes with all manner of temptations but also manifests all appearances of evil. A highly respected pastor’s wife based in Lagos recently found herself on the wrong side of the social network.
Mama, as her members fondly called her, thought she was on the platform for the right reasons… to use the platform for evangelism. Within a period of two or so years, the mama, who is pretty looking and in her late 30s, had cultivated a huge followership of about 50, 000 fans which cut across all ages. Her fans also included young men who posted their pictures on her Facebook and were fond of exchanging correspondences with her on spiritual and temporal matters.
There was this particular male fan, a youth corper in his mid 20s. He was a ladies’ man endowed with a breathtaking physique. After a few exchanges of sweet correspondences, the mama became physically attracted to the young man, and some funny ideas began to creep into her head. Then, one thing began to lead to another. One evening, the mama struck a date with the young man, desiring to see him in flesh. She drove off in her choice Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV). Their first meeting was less romantic as the mama struggled to maintain her dignity and virtue as a woman of God and wife of a well-known General Overseer (GO).
As time went by, their meetings became more and more frequent. She had already led herself into the temptation but could not deliver herself from the evil that accompanied it. Eventually, the devil snatched the facebook platform from her and supplanted evangelism with sexangelism. She then began to hatch a scheme that would take her away from home. One of such schemes was counseling visitations to some of the church members living on the outskirts of Lagos. She, however, insisted on driving herself instead of using her personal driver, as was previously the practice.
On one of her dates with the corper partner, she was spotted by a member of her church in an obscure hotel located somewhere in Surulere. To avoid being found out, the mama decided to be changing date venues as regularly as they had the urge to meet. The church member confided in one of the resident pastors of a branch of the church in Surulere. Unsure of how their GO would react to their finding, the pastor sent an anonymous text message to him. At first, he was shocked at the revelation but he kept his cool and decided to play the detective. The decision of the mama to be doing her counseling ministry all by herself underscored the veracity of the message.
One evening, the mama set out on one of her so-called visitations. The GO then picked a car that was unfamiliar to her and went on her trail. This time around, her destination was an Ikorodu hotel where the corper lover had already paid for a room as a “guest” from Abeokuta. On arrival, the mama went straight to join her partner who was waiting for her by the parking lot. Partly disguised, as usual, he ushered her into their hotel room. The GO then waited patiently for the lovebirds at the reception. After about two or so hours, the duo emerged and walked into the waiting hands of the GO who had already sent for his pastor at the Ikorodu branch.
The adulterous mama was so shocked that she wished the ground would open up and swallow her. But her wish was not honoured. Not wanting to create a scene at the hotel reception, the GO simply told her to follow her lover boy home and consider herself a divorcee from that moment.
The following Sunday, he announced the Ikorodu scandal to the whole congregation who could not believe their ears. Right now, the mama has lost her home and position in the church, while the church members are wondering why she jeopardized all she had going for her in an ungodly affair with a guy who cannot even marry her.
