Porto optimistic of upset, PSG dare Barca
By Laolu Olugbenga
FC Porto will be optimistic of causing a first leg upset when they take on Bayern Munich at the Estadio Do Dragao. The Portuguese side subdued FC Basel to reach the quarters and believe they have what it takes to cause an upset. Beating the Bavarians will be no joy ride, but it’s a challenge they are ready for. Bayern are firmly in contention for a treble, having taken a 10-point lead in the Bundesliga and moving into the German Cup semi finals. They will, however, have to do without Franck Ribery and Bastian Schweinsteiger who have been ruled out with injury and virus, respectively. It has been described as a blow by Bayern Sports director and legend, Mathias Sammer.
Barcelona and PSG will play each other for the third time this season at the Parc Des Princes. PSG prevailed in France in the group stage but Barca got the upper hand at the Nou Camp. Having beaten Chelsea in the round of 16, they have been plagued by injury and are now without David Luiz, Thiago Motta, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic who was controversially sent off. Barca saw their La Liga lead at the weekend trim down to two points, but they have been on form in Europe. A dominant second leg display against Manchester City has put them in the driving seat as they target their first title since 2011.
