Bayern hope for unlikely miracle in tonight’s Champions League semis 2nd leg
By Laolu Olugbenga
Bayern Munich will be desperate for a miracle from the soccer gods if they are to scale past Barcelona when they tackle each other at the Allianz Arena tonight. The Bavarians were smashed 3-0 in the first leg in an unlucky last 13 minutes of the game.
While Guardiola’s plan seemed to be working perfectly and Manuel Neuer making some fantastic saves, Bernat lost possession and Barcelona scored, paving way for two more goals. Their failure to pick up a crucial away goal will also have an effect on whether they can overturn the score line. They have overturned a deficit already in the quarter final against FC Porto, where a 3-1 loss became a 7-4 aggregate victory. This is Barcelona though.
The Catalans are in brilliant form with Messi, Suarez and Neymar all showing their class. Messi took Bayern down at the Nou Camp with two fine goals, and he will have a chance to inflict further damage. Bayern are on the back of a shock 1 - 0 home loss to Augsburg in the Bundesliga, and the likes of Franck Ribery, David Alaba and Arjen Robben remain unavailable, sadly. Barca have a fully fit squad. So, it is hard to see them stumble. But in football, you can never say never.
