The devil and the sea
A fresh undergraduate of English was narrating her traumatic campus plight to a couple as she sat between them. She ended her story with one of her favourite idiomatic expressions: “Right now, I am between the devil and the deep blue sea.”
The couple, slightly embarrassed, exchanged an angry look, wondering who between them is the devil and the other the deep blue sea.
