Many ladies adopt different measures in their desperation to get hooked when time is running out on them and suitors are not forthcoming. Some visit spiritualists and native doctors for charms while some others attend prayer and fasting programmes of churches. Another group of these girls simply seduce the guys of their dreams and feign pregnancy in the course of the relationship. Such ladies believe they could trap the guys with pregnancy and force them to take them to the altar.

An Ilorin-based banker who belongs to the last category of desperate girls recently had her hopes dashed as the pregnancy trap she set for one of her colleagues backfired. The lady, in her 30s, decided to go after her handsome colleague in a subtle manner and a relationship developed between them. Although the guy had a fiancée based in Jos, and he did not hide the fact that he was in love with his fiancée from her, she told the guy that they should just begin dating and see where the adventure would lead them. She argued that since they both enjoyed each other’s company, they should continue the affair for as long as it would last. Apparently because of the distance between him and his fiancée, the guy thought he could have a nice time with his colleague girlfriend and pull out of the relationship at the right time.

Then suddenly, the lady announced to him that she was pregnant. The guy was confused and devastated because of what that development would do to his relationship with his fiancée. He had already introduced his fiancée to his family and they all love her. Eventually, he succumbed to the pressure from his colleague girlfriend and summoned courage to inform his fiancée of the development. As expected, the fiancée was devastated. She contacted his family about the issue and when they confirmed it from their son, they also didn’t find it funny. The girl had become a part of the family as she would spend days with the guy’s mother during holidays when they were still in school, helping the woman with house chores and her business. They tried to calm her down, assuring her that their son would marry no one but her. They told her that the worst that could happen is that they would take custody of the child, but their son would not marry the child’s mother. Their assurances, however, did not help much, as she thought the end had come for her and her fiancé.

Then, about four months into the purported pregnancy, the guy observed that his colleague’s tummy was not protruding as expected. Not even a little bump could be noticed. He then confronted her and she broke down in tears that she had lost the pregnancy. The guy then suspected strongly that there was never a pregnancy in the first place, and that it was all fabricated to entrap him into marrying her. Knowing that he is a gentleman with a conscience, she must have figured out that he would not be able to dump her if he thought she was carrying his baby.

As the truth finally came out, the guy quickly contacted his fiancée to break the news to her and ask for her forgiveness. He also got his family and friends to join him in asking her to forgive him when the lady was not enthusiastic about trusting him again. She was disappointed in her fiancé but later forgave him. The guy quickly asked for transfer to another branch of the bank and assured his fiancée that he had learnt his lesson and would stay away from women. His fiancée was advised by her family to consider moving to Ilorin to be close to her man and she has begun taking steps towards relocation. Also, the guy’s family has decided to start preparations for their traditional marriage which would be followed immediately by a white wedding.

As for the lady banker, she is currently licking her wounds and wishing she hadn’t tried to con the guy into marrying her.
