Bizman regrets marrying fake rich girl

Bizman regrets marrying fake rich girl

Marriage is supposed to be rooted in love. The ideal thing is for a man and woman who are in love with each other to come together as husband and wife in holy matrimony. But these days, people marry for different reasons other than love. Some marry the partners they don’t love but which their parents chose for them because they want to please those parents. And some others marry their spouses for the pecuniary benefits that would accrue to them from the marriage. This is especially true of young people whose efforts at making it in life are not yielding results. Besides, there are some greedy young people who are comfortable but yearn for more money to belong among those who have really hit it big in the society. So, they ferret for rich girls or guys to hook in marriage, believing that their wealth or those of their families would enrich them.

A young businessman in Kaduna recently got his fingers burnt in a bid to enrich himself further through marriage. He was comfortable as a bachelor; at least he was running his own company and employing about 10 staff. He also had a personal car and an office vehicle which a driver used to run errands for the company. And he lived in a 3-bedroom flat, though as a tenant. He had a fiancée whom he had dated for sometime, and friends and relatives were looking forward to the chiming of their wedding bells.

Then suddenly, a female corper was posted to his office for her one year youth service and the equation changed dramatically for him. Rumours began to fly around that this corper was from a stupendously rich family in the oil-rich Niger Delta region, where the young managing director incidentally comes from. The rumour mill had it that the girl’s father was a high profile traditional ruler and an oil/gas mogul with deep connections with Shell Oil Company.

Captivated by the tales of her wealthy background and her stunning beauty, the young MD decided to go for the big fish. He dumped his fiancée and began to date the corper. And immediately after her youth service, he fixed their wedding date. Gossips flew around again that the bride’s family had budgeted an obscene amount of money for the wedding, and even the maggi cubes and other condiments that would be used to cook for the reception would be imported from America. Everyone in the city was excited about the wedding, expecting to see an overwhelming display of wealth on the wedding day.

But alas, the rumours were false! Contrary to the people’s expectations, there was nothing extraordinary about the wedding. None of the bride’s family members turned up in very expensive clothes or posh cars, and everything they used at the wedding was purchased locally at the groom’s expense. There was nothing to suggest that the bride came from a rich family. And so, everyone was disappointed in whoever originated the fairy-tales, which many believe was the bride herself, because of the way she ditched the manager of the company she served with whom she was dating before the MD approached her. Rather than tell the MD that she was already going out with his manager, she just switched over to the big boss in the manner that auctioneers go for the highest bidder… which suggests that she had her eyes on the MD’s money. She might have spread those lies as bait to lure the MD into a relationship culminating in marriage, and he fell for it.

And to add insult to injury, just about three weeks after the wedding, the MD’s business began to have problems. Things started going from bad to worse and the man had to sell his car at a point. He is now down to the small office car which he collected from the driver and converted to his personal use. Of course, the driver and some other staff of the company had to flee. The office is now a shadow of itself, operating only skeletal services. His bride does not have a job, and they are expecting their first baby already. The man is now regretting his marriage built on illusions, occasionally taking his frustrations out on the wife, more so that there are no rich in-laws to bail them out.
